Capturing Surf City in Watercolor: A Love Letter to Our Coastal Community

Some pieces start as a simple idea and end up becoming something much bigger.

As someone who calls Surf City home, I've always loved the unique character of our little beach town—the businesses, landmarks, and local spots that make it feel special. I wanted to create a piece that celebrated those places in a way that felt colorful, nostalgic, and distinctly coastal.

That inspiration led to one of my favorite watercolor paintings to date: a collection of Surf City landmarks and local businesses brought together into a single piece of artwork.

From familiar waterfront views to beloved local establishments, each element was carefully painted to reflect the charm and personality that make Surf City such a special place to live and visit. My goal was to create something that locals would instantly recognize and visitors would want to take home as a reminder of their time here.

After finishing the original watercolor, I decided to turn the painting into fine art prints so more people could enjoy it. The response was incredible.

I debuted the prints at Ocean Fest, one of Surf City's favorite annual celebrations. It was exciting to finally share the piece after spending so much time creating it and to see so many people interested in bringing a print home.

What I love most about creating local artwork is the opportunity to preserve pieces of our community. Businesses may change, buildings may evolve, and new memories are always being made, but art allows us to capture a moment in time and celebrate the places that shape our lives.

This Surf City watercolor is more than just a painting—it's a tribute to the town that has inspired so much of my work over the years.

Thank you to everyone who supported this piece, whether by purchasing a print, stopping by my booth at Ocean Fest, or following along with the creative process. Your support allows me to continue creating artwork inspired by the coast and the communities that make it feel like home.

I can't wait to continue creating artwork that celebrates the places we love most.
